  • Deconstructing, Building, and Now, Hosting.

For a long time, scootr.ca has been the home for my various passions. It started with the ScootTalks podcast, but over time, it became a bit of a digital garage sale for my interests in gaming, development, and sports. If you’ve been following along, you might have noticed things felt a bit disconnected. I certainly did.

Today, that changes. I’m thrilled to officially relaunch scootr.ca with a new design, a new focus, and a new mission that finally connects all the dots.

    The New Philosophy: Deconstructing Everything

For years, I’ve been driven by a deep-seated curiosity to understand how things work. Whether it was my time as a project manager in digital communications, my fascination with sports analytics, my love for game mechanics, or my recent dive back into hands-on development, the common thread has always been the same: deconstruction. I love taking things apart—a career, a piece of software, a game’s design—to understand the systems that make them tick.

  • Sniper Elite 5 is a third person/first person hybrid shooter, where you are deployed in locations across Europe during World War II as, you guessed it, an elite sniper. With a decent array of weapons to choose from and customize with unlock-able extensions and attachments, it is another solid entry in the Sniper Elite series of video games. I have always enjoyed the series, from the zombie titles, to the straight forward shoot Nazi’s themes, and would recommend this game to anyone who enjoys a mission oriented shooter with a variety of strategy options.

You can choose to confront the enemies, have the alarms blare and take everyone on as they come, or you can do what I do, which is sneak around, mask the sound of my gun with any nearby masking source, and snipe people from as far away as possible. If not, I pull out a silenced pistol and ensure nobody finds the body and raised the alarm.

  • If you’ve played Football Manager, than you know that a lot of thinking can go into choosing a new save. We make a mental note for every save idea we come across. We see them everywhere, in the football matches we watch, in the stories we hear and the history we learn. It can be overwhelming at times – wanting to be able to weave all the stories we can envision. We ultimately know we have to choose just a few ideas to chase.

This year I wanted to spend more time choosing a save than I did for FM20. I desired a save that had meaning and history within football, but also was a club that I connected to personally. This can often be hard when you live in Canada and the clubs are all over the world but in this case I was lucky enough to have travelled with my wife in 2016 to Italy and discovered a city that we still talk about every week.

Welcome to the first post of the Bologna save for Football Manager 21. I am very excited to get back into blogging and I hope you enjoy your time here!

The 2036 – 2037 season for Weymouth FC certainly did not go as expected. In fact, it went about as bad as it possibly could, which was a bit shocking if I’m being honest. If you’ve read the last blog post you already know that we had finished in the top 6, qualified for Champion’s League and strengthened the squad in preparation for the new season. So what happened?

    A Horrendous Start

We were looking to have a fantastic start, given it was going to be an incredibly exciting season for our fans and players. I made the decision to keep the tactic we had been using with success the last two seasons and tried to bolster the depth where necessary, so not a lot of changes beyond some signing/transfers.

  • It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end.

Ursula K. Le Guin, The Left Hand of Darkness

I was trying to think of a great way to start my first Football Manager blog post, and after a bit of pondering I think this quote is the perfect start. For those who aren’t familiar with my Football Manager obsession, it began in November 2018 and has ignited a passion for the game, and the sport itself. I was always a big fan of football but with the creation of the Canadian Premier League‘s Valour FC and this new game, I was absolutely hooked. Since I first picked up the game I have consumed as much football as I can, in person, on TV and in Football Manager. (I’m actually a season ticket holder for the Valour now.)

Like anyone who gets into Football Manager, I started with a few different saves but really had no idea what I was doing. Thankfully, with the help of Twitter, YouTube and Twitch I was able to connect with a large variety of FM (Football Manager) players who shared a huge variety of content and I began to learn. As soon as I heard about the idea of a lower league save I was enthralled and decided it had to be my next save. I quickly put together a manager named ‘William Codwell’ who was from England (thanks to Hanna for the character development) and dropped him into the world of Football Manager without much experience.
