I've had to deal with a rising amount of spam coming through my email account every month, but it's starting to get to the point where I'm getting sick and tired of having to deal with it. It's true it's only a small amount in comparison to some, but it's frustrating enough. Outlook 2003 just does not catch enough of it. There are only a few options that I have left to attack this ongoing and escalating problem.
- Get a New Email Address
I could create a new account for all my email to go through, and just rid myself of my current email address. This would prevent having to deal with the spam I currently receive, but it would be a gigantic hassle to do, having to inform everyone of the change and switch all my subscriptions or services I may have signed up for to the new email address. Sort of a final resort. - Setup Specific Email Accounts To try to control where my spam is coming from, I could create a different email address for different important subscriptions (amazon@domain.com, csslist@domain.com, etc) which would filter within outlook to specific folders. If too much spam started coming through an account, I could just shut it off.
- Take Steps Now and Live With It Remove all text links to my email address off any sites that I have online, and replace them with images of the email. If there is a way, modify or enhance my spam security on my POP3 server so that the most obvious spam is removed or filtered before it even gets the chance to be downloaded to my Outlook.
If you have any suggestions of software, hardware, or techniques to lessen the effect of spam, please give me an idea. I'm receiving nearly 120 useless emails a day, which works out to over 40,000 emails a year.
