Introduction
Welcome to scootr.ca. This website is the personal hub of Jeremy ‘scootR’ Shields. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy will inform you as to how we look after your personal data when you visit our website (regardless of where you visit it from) and tell you about your privacy rights and how the law protects you.
Who We Are
Our website address is: https://scootr.ca.
What Personal Data We Collect and Why We Collect It
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection. An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Contact Forms
When you use a contact form on our website, we collect your name and email address so that we can respond to your inquiry. To respect your privacy and comply with data minimization principles like those found in GDPR, we do not store these form submissions on our website’s database. The information is sent directly to our email.
Payments
When you purchase a service, you will be directed to our payment processor, Stripe. We do not collect or store your credit card information on our servers. All payment information is securely handled by Stripe. We may receive transactional data from Stripe, such as your name, email, and purchase details, in order to fulfill your order. You can review Stripe’s privacy policy here: https://stripe.com/privacy.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Cookies
This site uses cookies to enhance your experience. A cookie is a small file placed on your device.
- Comments: If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
- User Accounts: If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser. When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
- Analytics & Performance: We use services like Google Analytics and WordPress Jetpack that set cookies to collect anonymous information about how visitors use our site, such as the number of visitors, where they came from, and the pages they visited. We use this information to compile reports and improve the site.
You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, if you do not accept cookies, you may not be able to use some portions of our site.
Embedded Content from Other Websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g., videos from YouTube, podcast players from Spotify, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Who We Share Your Data With
We do not sell your personal data. We share data with the following third-party service providers to operate our website:
- Stripe: For secure payment processing for our hosting services.
- Google (Analytics & reCAPTCHA): We use Google Analytics to analyze site traffic. We also use reCAPTCHA v3 on our site to help prevent spam and abuse on forms. Your use of reCAPTCHA is subject to the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.
- Automattic (WordPress Jetpack): We use the Jetpack plugin for site security, performance, and analytics features. This service may collect data such as IP addresses, browser type, and activity to provide its features, including spam detection via its Akismet service. You can read Automattic’s privacy policy for more details.
- SureMail: We use the SureMail plugin to ensure reliable delivery of transactional emails, such as password resets and form submission notifications. This service processes email addresses and the content of the emails it sends.
- Password Resets: If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
How Long We Retain Your Data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What Rights You Have Over Your Data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
To make a request, please contact us at jeremy@scootr.ca.
Where Your Data Is Sent
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service (Akismet, part of Jetpack). Additionally, as we use third-party services like Google, Stripe, and Automattic, your data may be processed and stored on servers located outside of Canada, primarily in the United States.
